Dallas Woman Dies After Receiving Plastic Surgery In Mexico

DALLAS, TX -- A 36-year-old Dallas real estate agent has died after she traveled to Juarez, Mexico, in October to receive plastic surgery. Laura Avila's death on Nov. 24 was confirmed by her attorney Larry Friedman in a statement provided to CBS. "So that her death is not in vain, people should think of Laura before they look for cross border discount surgery," Friedman said. "They should do their homework and investigate the experience, training and track record of anyone before they sign up. Always look before you leap." Avila's sister Angie told CBS that the Rino Center where she was getting numerous surgeries performed had placed the anesthesia in the wrong place in her spine, which caused her brain to swell and her kidneys to fail.
